Nailicho, the Dene Legend
Just like our readers, immerse yourself in the world of Nailicho and let the Nahanni River sweep you away.

I finished Nailicho this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it — beautiful writing, and the story truly transported me to the banks of the Nahanni River, making me want to watch the documentary. I always prefer to read first and form my own mental images before confronting the reality of the landscapes. Lovely touch, that map at the beginning — I kept going back to it throughout the story…

In addition to being an excellent novelist, Jean Guillemot also offers us valuable insight into the Dene peoples. A double pleasure to read.

I loved the story, the references to beliefs, rituals… The words in Native American languages were really an added value for me, even though they required a bit of mental gymnastics, just like the vocabulary. The rituals and legends at the end let you see the real work and interpretation that went into writing the story. And the photos make you want to see more (and obviously to watch the film!). As you’ll have gathered, I loved it a lot!

This story transported me to the remote Nahanni River. I came to know these Indigenous peoples, their legends, and their rituals, and I grew fond of them. You live alongside them as you read, and the maps are very helpful.
It’s a quick, crystal-clear read—a sheer delight.
